Where to apply
You have to apply for a certificate of marital status at the local municipality if both you and your partner meet one of the following criteria:

You are a Danish citizen
You are a citizen in a Nordic country (i.e. Finland, Sweden, Norway or Island)
You have a permanent residence permit, issued in Denmark
You have an obtained a permanent residence right under the Directive 2004/38/EC implemented in Danish law as “EU-Opholdsbekendtgørelsen”

If you not meet the abovementioned criteria, you have to send an application for a certificate of marital status to the State Administration>/u>.

This is the case if you or your partner respectively is not Danish citizens, citizens from a Nordic country or if you have not a permanent residence permit in Denmark or has obtained a permanent residence right under the Directive 2004/38/EC implemented in Danish law as "EU-Opholdsbekendtgørelsen.”

Attachments

If you are a widow or widower, you must attach documentation the probate record.

It is possible to attach additional documentation for name and date of birth, legal residence and civil status. While filling the out the marriage declaration you will be made aware of when documentation is required. Read more in the guide on documentation types.
